The youth team of Turkmenistan lost to Thailand in the Asian Cup qualifiers

The youth football team of Turkmenistan (under 20 years old) lost to the team of Thailand with a score of 0:1 in the match of the second round of the Asian Cup-2027 qualifying tournament, but the chance to enter the final part of the competition was preserved.

The meeting of the group stage of group "F" took place in the Thai city of Chonburi. The only goal in the match was scored by forward Siva Pikulhom in the 57th minute. Before that, both teams had opportunities to score: Jakrapon Upakari's shot was parried by Turkmen national team goalkeeper Izzat Erkinov, and Sivakonra Ponsana's free kick hit the crossbar.

This victory became the second in a row for the Thais after the initial success over the UAE national team (1:0) and allowed Jukkapantha Punpi's team to move three points away from the closest pursuers in the group for the round before the end of the group stage.

After two rounds, the Turkmen team is in second place with 3 points, sharing this position with the Iraq team, which also scored 3 points. In the opening match of the tournament, Turkmen football players won a victory over Iraq with a score of 2:1 thanks to the goals of Yakupmuhammet Hovshudov and Weisgeldy Orazdurdiyev.

In the final round of the group stage, which will be held on September 6, the national team of Turkmenistan will meet with the UAE team, and Thailand will play with Iraq. The result of these matches will depend on whether the Turkmen team will retain the second place in the group, which will give them the opportunity to fight for a ticket to the final tournament.

A total of 31 youth teams, divided into eight groups, are participating in the qualifying stage of the Asian Cup-2027. 15 teams will enter the final part of the tournament: eight winning groups, seven best teams and the second place and the host competition - the Chinese team.
