Tesla has officially unveiled Cybercab, a self-driving car that does not have a steering wheel or pedals, and has added it to the fleet of its robot taxi service in Austin, Texas. This was reported by The Verge with a link to Tesla's closed event.

The prototype Cybercab was first shown by CEO Elon Musk in October 2024. Tesla released the first serial copy of the electric car in February 2026, started mass production in April, and in June began testing the car on the roads of the United States.

Tesla's robot taxi service began operation in the summer of 2025 - at that time, only Model Y cars were used in the fleet.

The exact number added to the Cybercab fleet is not disclosed. However, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, Tesla has 45 such vehicles registered. In total, 256 unmanned vehicles are used in six cities of the USA. For comparison, competing service Waymo has about 4000 cars in 14 cities.

Tesla has also launched a website for potential partners who are interested in the development of the robot taxi service and are ready to purchase Cybercab to form their own fleet. The terms of the sale of the driverless car are not announced.
