On August 25, a meeting was held in Ashgabat between Mergen Kepbanov, Director of the Project Office of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) in Turkmenistan, and Nurlan Nogayev, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, CAREC's main areas of activity, ongoing regional initiatives, and events held with the organization's support in Turkmenistan were presented.

Particular attention was paid to regional climate cooperation. The Regional Environmental Conference, held in Astana from April 22–24, 2026, was noted. The 8th Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2026) was held as part of the conference, providing a platform for discussing climate policy, adaptation to climate change, and sustainable development in the region. It was also reported that the 9th Central Asian Conference on Climate Change is planned to be held in Bishkek in 2027 within the framework of the Mountain Summit.

The parties discussed the development of cooperation in the field of training young specialists in sustainable development areas. Information was presented on CAREC's collaboration with Green University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which offers undergraduate and graduate programs in environmental management, “green” economy, sustainable development, environmental law, sustainable finance, circular economy, and sustainable tourism. The possibility of attracting applicants from Turkmenistan to these programs is being explored.

The Kazakh Ambassador expressed interest in developing cooperation in this area and noted the importance of training specialists with modern knowledge in the field of ecology and climate policy.

The parties also discussed the possibility of CAREC's project office participating in events organized by the Kazakh Embassy in Ashgabat, including projects focusing on environmental, climate, and educational issues.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and marked another step in developing cooperation between the CAREC project office in Turkmenistan and the Embassy of Kazakhstan.
