UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has stated that he does not intend to run for FIFA President and will not challenge the current head of the organization, Gianni Infantino, in the elections to be held in March 2027. However, he expects Infantino to face a challenger.

Ceferin, who is 57 years old, has long been seen as the most likely candidate to head FIFA. However, he emphasized that he values his work at UEFA and is not interested in a new position - according to him, it is the lack of personal ambitions that makes his position more significant in the football community.

According to the UEFA president, Infantino faces two possible scenarios: either he acknowledges the lack of support—from football associations, fans, players, and coaches—and resigns, or he takes part in the March elections, where, according to Ceferin, he will face another candidate, whose name has not yet been announced.

The controversy surrounding Infantino's proposal to sell 21% of the new FIFA Forward Enterprise, which was intended to manage the commercial and ticketing rights for FIFA tournaments, to private investors sparked discussions about Infantino's future. The project drew sharp criticism from UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation and was abandoned following widespread discontent. The football associations of all four UK countries have also declared a loss of confidence in Infantino, while South America's CONMEBOL and Africa's CAF continue to support him.
