This year, farmers in the Dashoguz velayat sowed sesame on 560 hectares of land.

According to “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”, the main producers of sesame in the region are traditionally the Koneurgench etrap and S. Turkmenbashy etrap, where 140 hectares are devoted to sesame cultivation. Farmers in the Akdepe etrap cultivate 125 hectares. Farmers in these etraps have considerable experience in sesame cultivation and reap high yields annually.

Sesame is traditionally grown in this region: it thrives in warmth and light and thrives in high temperatures. It also has relatively low soil requirements and a short growing season.
