Mihai Daraban, President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Annamammet Annayev, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Romania, discussed new opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation during a meeting in Bucharest, according to the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's website.

The main focus was on the energy sector and cooperation between the ports of Constanta and Turkmenbashy.

Mihai Daraban confirmed the proposal to resume the AGRI project, which could provide access for natural gas from the Caspian region, starting from Turkmenistan, to the European market.

"The port of Constanta could become a starting point for natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Europe, connecting to the transport infrastructure of Azerbaijan and Georgia, and then to the BRUA gas pipeline. Such a project would be a true catalyst for cooperation between the business communities of the two countries," he noted.

Ambassador Annamammet Annayev presented a report on Turkmenistan's economic opportunities, highlighting the 6,3% gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the first half of 2026 and the country's position as the world's fourth-largest holder of proven natural gas reserves.

"Turkmenistan has significant energy resources and a steadily growing economy. Cooperation between the ports of Turkmenbashy and Constanta, as well as the project to create a regional distribution center for Turkmen products in the port of Constanta, could become a strategic pillar of economic relations between the two countries," the ambassador said.
