Turkmenistan has proposed creating a unified information and legal database for the region's trade unions

A regional conference titled "Legal Protection of Education Workers: The Role of Trade Unions in Modern Conditions" took place in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan from July 8 to 11, 2026, with the participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen delegation included representatives of the country’s National Trade Union Center, P. Ovezov and K. Bugraev, as well as B. Annagurbanova, a department head at the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.

During the session on country reports, a representative of Turkmenistan delivered a presentation on trade union cooperation in Central Asia. The statement noted that the activities of Turkmenistan’s trade unions are grounded in the provisions of the Constitution and relevant legislation designed to protect the interests of workers.

The report paid special attention to expanding cooperation with the Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) of the International Labour Organization. The joint plan for 2026–2027 includes a regional meeting of trade union leaders and a conference in Ashgabat, as well as training for specialists in Turin.

The Turkmen side also proposed a number of practical initiatives, including the creation of a unified information and legal framework for the region's trade unions, the intensification of experience-sharing in the field of occupational safety, and the greater involvement of women and youth in trade union activities.

Delegates from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan also shared their experiences regarding the protection of educators' rights, the reform of trade union structures, and the implementation of digital technologies. Following the meeting, the participants reaffirmed the region's shared commitment to deepening integration and strengthening the legal foundations of labor relations.
