Chess players from Turkmenistan won a record 16 medals at the Central and Northern Asia Youth Championship, held from June 30 to July 9 on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan.
Across the rapid, classical, and blitz chess competitions, Turkmen athletes won 3 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze medals. This marks the best result in the history of Turkmen chess at a single international tournament.
Following the rapid chess competition, Turkmen athletes won five medals: two gold, two silver, and one bronze.
Turkmen chess players won six medals in the classical event. Bagul Jumayeva won the gold medal in the under-10 age category (G10). Annamuhammed Hommadov (U20) and Lala Shohradova (G20) took silver, while Meryem Rustemova (G8), Dilber Hupbyeva (G12), and Jahan Rejepova (G16) won bronze medals.
In the blitz tournament, chess players from Turkmenistan won five medals: two silver and three bronze. Ali Ahmedov (U14) and Shageldy Kurbandurdyev (U18) took silver, while Meryem Rustemova (G8), Dilber Khupbyeva (G12), and Nazar Narimanov (U12) won bronze.
479 chess players from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan took part in the championship.
The national team's participation was organized by the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan with the support of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports.
