Armenia is interested in expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan in the gas sector – Ambassador

Armenia attaches great importance to opportunities for developing energy cooperation with Turkmenistan and is interested in expanding collaboration in the gas sector. Arsen Avagyan, Armenia’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, stated this in an interview with the online publication Turkmenportal.

"Armenia consistently pursues a policy of enhancing energy security and diversifying energy supply sources, and attaches great importance to opportunities for developing cooperation with Turkmenistan in the energy sector—recognizing Turkmenistan’s potential as a nation that, possessing some of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, is a key player in the international energy market and a significant partner in ensuring energy security and supply diversification, and not only for Armenia," he said.

According to the diplomat, the energy sector traditionally holds an important place on the agenda of cooperation between the two countries. Issues regarding collaboration in this sphere are regularly addressed within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, as well as during contacts between the relevant agencies of Armenia and Turkmenistan.

The ambassador noted that cooperation in the energy sector rests on a solid historical foundation: in the 1990s, Turkmenistan was a major supplier of natural gas to Armenia, and the accumulated experience of collaboration provides a strong basis for the further development of the partnership.According to him, Turkmen energy resources are of mutual interest and hold significant potential for the development of long-term cooperation. In recent years, a series of consultations and expert discussions have taken place regarding various aspects of energy cooperation; in particular, Armenia has shown interest in developing cooperation in the gas sector.

At the same time, Avagyan emphasized that energy cooperation between Armenia and Turkmenistan is not limited solely to gas supply issues. "We see prospects in other areas as well, including the exchange of experience, the development of modern energy technologies, and the implementation of mutually beneficial projects," the ambassador noted.
