Djokovic has overtaken Federer in terms of the number of Wimbledon titles

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has set a new Wimbledon record for the number of matches won in the tournament’s history.

The player secured his record-breaking 106th victory in the fourth round, defeating Russia’s Roman Safiullin. Prior to this, Djokovic had shared first place in this statistic with Switzerland’s Roger Federer, who retired in 2019.

The Serbian has a total of 408 singles victories at Grand Slam tournaments — an all-time record. Djokovic also leads the way in terms of victories at the Australian Open (104), whilst he ranks second at the French Open and the US Open (with 103 and 95 victories respectively).

As far as titles are concerned, Federer remains in first place for the number of singles titles at Wimbledon, having won the tournament eight times. Djokovic has seven titles; tied with him in second place are the American Pete Sampras and the Briton William Renshaw, who won the title before the start of the Open Era.

Djokovic, aged 39, is ranked 8th in the ATP rankings. He has won 101 singles titles under the association’s auspices, including 24 Grand Slam titles — a men’s record. He is also the 2024 Olympic champion, a bronze medallist at the 2008 Olympics and the winner of the 2010 Davis Cup. Furthermore, Djokovic holds the record for the total number of weeks spent as world number one — 428.

Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, is being played on grass and will conclude on 12 July. The prize money for the tournament totals 64,2 million pounds sterling. The defending champion is the world number one, Yannick Sinner of Italy.
