An ITU forum on future communication technologies has opened in Ashgabat

A two-day forum titled "Future of Connectivity," organized jointly with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has kicked off at the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan. The event is taking place in Ashgabat on June 29–30 in an in-person format, bringing together representatives from government bodies, regulators, telecommunications companies, and the academic community across CIS countries.

The forum focused on promising avenues for the development of modern communication networks and digital infrastructure. Participants are discussing the adoption of new Wi-Fi 6/7/8 standards, the development of LEO, MEO, and GEO satellite communication technologies, Direct-to-Device connectivity capabilities, and the use of artificial intelligence to manage telecommunications networks.

Dedicated sessions focus on transport infrastructure development, the use of private cellular networks, and the prospects for deploying unmanned aerial vehicles within mobile frequency bands.

The speakers include international experts in telecommunications and digital transformation. Among them are Vadim Poskakukhin, CTO of Ubiquitous Wireless LLP (Kazakhstan); Konstantin Savin, Head of Technical Affairs at GSMA Eurasia; and Vahan Hovsepyan, Senior Advisor for Internet Security and Connectivity at RIPE NCC.

The forum will conclude with a round-table discussion where participants will examine practical opportunities for implementing modern communication technologies in Turkmenistan.
