Turkmenistan and the World Bank signed an agreement to develop national statistics

The State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan signed a fee-based consulting agreement with the World Bank Group (IBRD) to improve the country's statistical system for 2026–2027. The signing ceremony took place on June 22 at the committee's premises.

The signing of the document was preceded by a meeting between the head of the committee and a World Bank delegation led by Andrey Mikhnev, World Bank Resident Representative for Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as a series of working visits by bank delegations this year.

The agreement provides for technical assistance in several areas: methodology for participation in the International Comparison Program, development of the system of national accounts and GDP calculation in accordance with the 2025 SNA standard adopted at the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission in March 2025 in New York, as well as digitalization of data collection for household and labor market surveys using the Survey Solutions (CAPI) platform.

During the project, international experts will assist in developing operational guidelines and sample lists of goods and services for price data collection. TurkmenStat specialists will participate in training sessions on calculating purchasing power parity and compiling national accounts, as well as a pilot survey using computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI).

The implementation of the agreement is expected to improve the accuracy of the country's macroeconomic indicators and bring the national statistical system into line with international standards.
