New medical specialties have emerged in Russia

The Russian Ministry of Health has updated the nomenclature of specialties for workers with medical and pharmaceutical education. The document comes into effect on September 1, 2026, RIA Novosti reports, citing the ministry's order.

The updated list includes over 15 new competencies: analytical toxicology, medical biology, kinesio rehabilitation, medical zoology, medical massage, medical psychology, medical speech therapy, medical embryology, medical physics, nutrition, neuropsychology, forensic examination, dentistry, and occupational rehabilitation. Palliative care will be added to the list starting in September 2027.

The updates affect specialists with higher education and additional professional training in medicine or pharmacy. However, a number of existing specialties—bacteriology, virology, and parasitology—will retain their status in the nomenclature until September 2028.
