Axiom Space and Prada unveil thermal ventilation suit for lunar missions

American space company Axiom Space, in collaboration with Italian fashion house Prada, has developed and unveiled an underlayer for a lunar spacesuit – the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG).

The suit is designed to be worn directly under the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU), a design both companies unveiled back in 2024. The LCVG provides thermal regulation and ventilation: an integrated system of tubes located in the major muscle groups circulates fluid to remove excess heat. A separate circuit supplies oxygen and removes carbon dioxide.

According to Space.com, the suit is designed for astronauts performing lunar walks. Before using it in lunar conditions, the developers plan to conduct tests aboard the International Space Station or within the framework of the Artemis 3 mission, scheduled for 2027. However, the Artemis 3 program does not include a lunar landing. The first manned flight to the moon since 1972, the Artemis 2 mission, took place in the spring of 2026.
