Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will step down in 2027 after his second term expires and will not run for reelection, but will retain an active role in the country's political life. This was stated by Aleksandar Vulin, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Srbijagas and former Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, in an interview with TASS on the eve of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
According to Vulin, the Serbian constitution limits the presidency to two terms, and Vučić has never violated the country's fundamental law. "President Vučić will remain part of Serbia's new political life; he will continue to be involved in politics," the agency's source emphasized, adding that the current head of state "will continue to be a very important player."
Vučić was first elected president in 2017 and was re-elected for a second term in 2022. He previously admitted the possibility of early resignation as his term draws to a close.
