The administration of US President Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of introducing a new 250 USD bill featuring the current president, The Independent reports. The bill's release is planned to coincide with the 250th anniversary of US independence.
According to the publication, the White House is pressuring several federal agencies to implement the initiative, but they have met with little enthusiasm. Under current US law, portraits of deceased citizens are permitted on banknotes only.
The Treasury Department stated that it is "conducting appropriate planning with due diligence" on this issue.
Former Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing Larry R. Felix stated that issuing such a banknote would be impossible without the appropriate act of Congress. Experts estimate that such a project could take six to eight years to complete.
