The Xiaomi YU7 GT sets a world SUV record at the Nürburgring

The Chinese electric crossover Xiaomi YU7 GT set an absolute lap record for a production SUV and crossover on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The car, driven by the company's chief test driver, Ren Zhoucan, completed the lap in 7 minutes 34,931 seconds, according to carnewschina.com.

The previous record was held by the Audi RS Q8 Performance, with a time of 7:36.698, set in 2024. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Coupé previously recorded a time of 7:38.925 in 2021.

Ren Zhoucan became the first Chinese professional racing driver to receive an official lap record certificate at the Nürburgring.

From a technical standpoint, the car is quite comprehensively equipped. The YU7 GT is built on a dual-motor all-wheel drive platform: a front electric motor producing 288 kW (386 hp) and a rear one producing 450 kW (604 hp), yielding a total output of 738 kW (990 hp). A 101.7 kWh battery provides a range of up to 705 km (435 mi) on the CLTC cycle. The top speed is claimed to be 300 km/h (186 mph).

It's worth noting that the car used for the record-breaking run was equipped with a reinforced roll bar and had no rear seats—standard practice for such record attempts. The car was also equipped with a special "track package," details of which the company promises to reveal at the official presentation.

It's worth noting that the record was set on April 2, but Xiaomi deliberately held back the news until just before the model's official launch on May 21. The YU7 GT is expected to retail for around 400,000 yuan. The car is already on display in 268 Xiaomi showrooms in 82 cities across China.
