On May 19, 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and Director of the Department for Accession to the World Trade Organization Maika Oshikawa, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the talks, the parties discussed current issues related to Turkmenistan's interaction with the WTO, including specific steps toward the country's accession. Participants exchanged views on the state of regional and international trade and economic cooperation, improving the national regulatory framework, and developing cooperation with international organizations and relevant bodies.

Turkmenistan's consistent cooperation with the WTO was noted during the talks.

Within the framework of the Director of the Accession Department's visit to Ashgabat, a meeting is also scheduled with representatives of the Government Commission for the Study of Issues Related to Turkmenistan's Accession to the WTO.
