Putin will attend the CIS summit in Turkmenbashy in October

Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, which will take place on October 9 in Turkmenbashy on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea. This was announced following a telephone conversation between the Russian President and the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

According to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper, during the telephone conversation, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan is consistently expanding its multifaceted and systemic partnership with Russia in the spirit of strategic cooperation, as well as multilateral interaction. In this context, the National Leader emphasized the importance of international events that will be held as part of Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

"President Vladimir Putin is also expected to attend the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, scheduled for October 2026," the statement said.

Turkmenistan will chair the CIS in 2026. Its responsibilities include the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Heads of Government, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Economic Council, and several other Commonwealth bodies. Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are co-chairing the Commonwealth this year.
