Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the participants of the 84th International Meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States Council on the opening of its work. The welcoming address was published on the website of the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate you on the opening of the 84th International Meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States Council on Rail Transport,” the address reads.
In his welcoming address, Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the key role of the railway industry as the foundation of economic cooperation and stability in the region. He recalled that Turkmenistan has been an active member of the organization since 1992 and has consistently developed partnerships in combined transport and coordinated transport policies.
The President also noted Ashgabat's contribution to the development of international transit corridors. He noted that since independence, the country has built and commissioned the Tejen-Sarakhs-Mashhad, Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran, and Kerki-Ymamnazar-Akina international railways, as well as a number of railway bridges.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also highlighted Turkmenistan's initiatives within the UN. Specifically, he mentioned the General Assembly resolution "The UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035," a draft of which was presented at the 80th session in September 2025. Furthermore, at Ashgabat's initiative, November 26 was declared World Sustainable Transport Day.
Among the priority areas, the head of Turkmenistan named the development of the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transport corridor, the Lazuli Route, the TRACECA corridor, as well as a multimodal route linking the countries of the Asia-Pacific region with Europe via Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye.
