Spy photos reveal the appearance of the new BMW X7

Second-generation BMW X7 prototypes were spotted testing last month. Based on spy photos, automotive experts have formed an idea of what the production car will look like, according to kolesa.ru.

The current full-size BMW X7 crossover was unveiled in the fall of 2018, based on the 2017 concept of the same name. In 2022, the model underwent a major restyling. The company is now preparing to release an entirely new generation of its flagship.

The new X7 will follow the Neue Klasse design language adopted by the Bavarian brand's latest models. At the front, the car will retain the distinctive two-tier headlights similar to the current facelift, but the design of the daytime running lights at the top will be modified, and the main headlight units will take on a nearly square shape. The overall proportions of the new generation are close to its predecessor, but the sidewalls will undergo significant changes: the body will lose the beltline—one of the most recognizable design elements of BMWs of the past—and the door handles will be relocated to the window line. The rear end is expected to feature wide, horizontally elongated taillights and a relocation of the license plate recess to the rear bumper.

In terms of powertrain options, the new X7 will offer both internal combustion engines—petrol and diesel—as well as a fully electric version, dubbed the iX7. The latter will feature one electric motor on each axle; according to preliminary data, the combined output of the two motors could exceed 800 hp. By comparison, the top-of-the-line version of the current X7 is equipped with a 4.4-liter petrol V8 producing 530 hp.

The debut of the second-generation BMW X7 is expected closer to 2027.
