May 9 – Victory Day
Turkmenistan honors the memory of those who fought in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. On this day, commemorative events, flower-laying ceremonies at memorials and monuments to fallen soldiers, and cultural and patriotic activities are held across the country. Thousands of Turkmen citizens fought on the war fronts, and their contribution to the common Victory holds a significant place in the historical memory of the Turkmen people.
May 18 – Constitution and National Flag Day
Constitution and National Flag Day has been celebrated as a dual holiday in Turkmenistan since May 18, 2018. Initially, these two holidays existed separately, but in October 2017, the country's parliament decided to combine them. The Constitution of Turkmenistan was adopted on May 18, 1992, at the 14th session of the Supreme Council. The country's national flag was officially approved on February 19, 1992. Traditionally, on May 18, the official raising ceremony of the Main Flag of Turkmenistan takes place in Ashgabat. The flagpole reaches 133 meters in height.
May 25 – Ashgabat City Day
In accordance with a decree of the President of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat City Day has been celebrated annually on May 25 since 2013. In 2026, the holiday takes on a special significance: the city was founded in 1881, meaning Ashgabat celebrates its 145th anniversary this year. The capital of Turkmenistan is the country's largest administrative, political, scientific, and cultural center. On May 25, 2013, Ashgabat was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most white marble city. During the anniversary celebrations, the city will host large-scale celebrations, including the 25th International Exhibition and Conference "White City Ashgabat," scheduled for May 24–25, 2026.
The last Sunday in May is Turkmen Carpet Day.
Turkmen Carpet Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in May. In 2026, this date falls on May 31. The holiday is dedicated to one of the main symbols of Turkmen culture and folk art. The handmade Turkmen carpet is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List and is a source of national pride.
The festive month of May ends with Gurban Bayram, one of the most important Islamic holidays celebrated in Turkmenistan at the state level. The exact dates are set annually by presidential decree. All three days of the holiday are non-working days.
