The transshipment of all cargo at the Turkmenbashy International Seaport increased by 10% in January-March 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, Argus reports.
The main contribution to the growth in indicators was made by the increase in the volume of unloading of Turkmen oil arriving at the Turkmenbashy oil processing complex, as well as the increase in export supplies of sulfur, the flows of which were redirected from the Iranian route.
Transit of all cargo through Turkmen ports increased by 23% during the reporting period compared to the first quarter of 2025. The key drivers of this increase were urea deliveries from Bekdash and the transshipment of bulk cargo through Okarem.
Sulfur transit through Turkmen ports increased after shipments were rerouted in March from Iran to Azerbaijan, and then to Georgia's Black Sea ports of Poti and Batumi. Market participants estimate that high sulfur prices in the Black Sea region, which have risen by 35% since the beginning of March, are an additional incentive for these shipments.
