The unique Yasga Lake supplies clean water to the western region of Turkmenistan

In the Balkan velayat, comprehensive efforts are underway to provide the region with clean drinking water. A key role in this effort is played by the water resources of the underground lake Yasga, located in the Central Karakum Desert in the ancient bed of the Uzboy River, according to the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan."

The lake is a unique natural reservoir containing both fresh and salt water. The fresh water is used for drinking, while the salt water is used for industrial and technical purposes.

The pumping station of the Türkmennebit Water Supply Department in the village of Yasga uses cluster pumping technology using two paired wells operating simultaneously: one with fresh water and the other with salt water. This method maintains the stability of the aquifers. Fresh water is supplied to the population for drinking, while salt water is used for industrial purposes.

The well operating mode, the ratio of fresh and salt water flow rates, the displacement of their boundaries and other technological processes are monitored by operators and engineering and technical personnel of the department.

The water is supplied through a special pipeline from the underground lake Yasga, located in the Bereket district, and undergoes a two-stage purification process using modern filters. Laboratory testing is conducted at each stage, guaranteeing the environmental purity and safety of the drinking water.

Three reservoirs are used for water storage: two with a capacity of 1 thousand cubic meters each and one with a capacity of 5 thousand cubic meters. They are operated by the water supply department of the Nebitgazburawlaýyş trust, a subsidiary of the Türkmennebit Group of Companies, one of the oldest companies maintaining a sustainable water supply in the western part of the country.

The extracted fresh water is transported via the Yasga-Balkanabat main water pipeline, which has a total length of 120.6 km.
