The Ashgabat Musical and Drama Theater presented a new play about Gorogly and his horse

The creative team of the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theatre presented to the public the play "Atdyr ýigidiň myrady", based on the play by the People's Writer of Turkmenistan Govshutgeldy Danatarov.

As reported by "Turkmenistan: The Golden Age," the play evokes the folk epic about the hero Gorogly, whose strength depends on his horse, Gayrat. Balybek heard of this and decided to seize the horse by deception. An old woman offered to help him, but with the understanding that Balybek would reward her for her service for 50 years. The old woman feigned infirmity and asked Gorogly for help. He invited her into his house, but the next morning discovered that both she and Gayrat were missing.

Gorogly went to the palace to see Balybek and ask for the horse's return. "Who knows who might want to take such a wonderful horse? First, prove it's yours," Balybek protested. Accompanied by the sounds of the dutar, Gorogly sang, "How can a Turkmen live without his horse?!" Gayrat, hearing his master's voice, recognized the familiar words of the song and immediately responded to Gorogly's call.

The play's director, Murat Aradov:

"Staging this play gave me the opportunity to engage the audience in a shared experience with the actors. Theater is a living organism; if the audience doesn't like something, they'll stop coming. The audience must breathe the same air as the actors, share the same interests as the characters in the play. Only then will we achieve good results."
