The first pig squealing championship took place in the Estonian city of Tartu

An unusual competition took place in Tartu, Estonia: participants competed to imitate pig sounds. The event took place within the framework of the city fair, reports kp.ru.

The contestants were judged on the persuasiveness, volume, and visual impact of their performances. The jury consisted not of music critics, but of pig breeding experts. The winner received a corresponding prize—half a pig carcass and a selection of sausages.

The idea of such competitions is not an Estonian invention. A similar tradition emerged in France over half a century ago: the commune of Trie-sur-Baïse hosts the annual La Pourcailhade pig festival, which includes a pig-sounding competition. The Tartu championship was the first such initiative in Estonia.
