The Turkmenistan women's beach handball team has advanced to the semifinals of the VI Asian Beach Games, currently underway in Sanya, China. Following the group stage, the Turkmen athletes finished second in Group B.
In the opening match of the tournament, the Turkmenistan team confidently defeated the Sri Lanka team with a score of 2:0 (12:10, 8:4). On the second day, the Turkmen athletes lost 0:2 (3:16, 13:22) to the hosts, the Chinese team. In the final match of the group round, a tense duel resulted in a comeback victory over the Mongolia team, 2:1. After losing the first set (14:16), the Turkmen handball players managed to turn the match around, winning the second set (12:10) and prevailing in the shootout (10:4).
Thanks to two wins in three matches, the Turkmenistan team advanced to the playoffs in second place. In the semifinals, which will take place on April 28, the Turkmen handball team will face the winner of Group A, Vietnam. In the other semifinal match, teams from China and Thailand will compete for a spot in the final.
The Turkmenistan team is coached by Gyulendam Narbaeva and Marina Divanova.
The Asian Beach Games in Sanya are being held from April 22 to 30. The competition program includes 14 sports, with 63 medal events up for grabs. The competition brings together the best athletes from Asian countries.
