The Chinese city of Sanya hosted the grand opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games 2026, bringing together 45 National Olympic Committees from across the continent.
Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani delivered the welcoming address at the ceremony. He expressed gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the city of Sanya and the Chinese Olympic Committee for organising the Games, and highlighted China’s extensive experience in hosting major international sporting events, including the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
In his speech, Sheikh Joaan emphasised the unifying role of sport for the peoples of Asia and urged athletes to compete with honour and serve as an inspiration to the younger generation. He also underscored the significance of the Games as a symbol of peace and solidarity amid the global challenges facing the international community.
Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin officially declared the 6th Asian Beach Games open.
The competitions, which will run through April 30, will bring together athletes from across the Asian continent.
