The 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has begun in Bangkok, with a Turkmen delegation led by Perhat Yagshiyev, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, participating. The international forum, held at the UN Conference Centre, will run until April 24.
The session's theme is "Leaving No One Behind: Promoting Inclusive Societies in the Asia-Pacific Region." The session's agenda includes regional cooperation, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants will discuss social development, environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, energy, transport, macroeconomic policy, development finance, trade, investment, entrepreneurship and business innovation, information and communications technology, science and innovation.
A ministerial meeting of the participating states of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) is planned for the session. Particular attention will be paid to the digitalization and green transformation of transit routes, the development of e-commerce, the expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises in value chains, and human resource development in transport, logistics, and digital commerce.
Turkmenistan has been a full member of ESCAP since 1992, actively collaborating on statistics, economic analysis, energy, and transport. The country sponsors ESCAP resolutions aimed at developing regional cooperation in transport and the environment.
