Huawei has released the Pura X Max, a foldable smartphone with a book-like form factor

Chinese company Huawei has unveiled the Pura X Max flip smartphone, positioning it as the first large-format foldable device in a book-like form factor, Gizmochina reports.

Unlike most foldable smartphones, which are designed to be folded vertically, the Pura X Max folds horizontally, similar to a book. According to the developers, this form factor is better suited for reading, working with documents, and viewing photos. The device's external display measures 5.4 inches, while the internal one measures 7.7 inches. Both screens support a dynamic refresh rate of 120 Hz; peak brightness is 3500 and 3000 nits, respectively.

The smartphone is equipped with the flagship Kirin 9030 Pro processor, runs HarmonyOS, and features an aluminum alloy body. Its 5,300 mAh battery supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless SuperCharge. The camera system includes a 50 MP main module with optical image stabilization and variable aperture, a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 12.5 MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

The base version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at 11,000 yuan (approximately 121,400 rubles at the Central Bank exchange rate on April 20, 2026). The higher-end configuration—16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage—costs 14,000 yuan (approximately 154,600 rubles). The device is currently only available in China; there is no information about international availability.

Apple is also showing interest in a similar form factor: according to reports, the company plans to introduce a foldable smartphone in the fall of 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 series.
