Turkmenistan boasts numerous attractive historical tourism sites, including those listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This was stated by Turkmenistan's Minister of Culture, Atageldy Shamuradov, at the Turkmentravel 2026 conference.
According to him, sites such as ancient Merv and Old Nisa are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are of significant interest to tourists.
The minister also noted the country's high potential for ecotourism. "The Koytendag caves and dinosaur footprints, preserved for millions of years, are of great interest to ecotourism enthusiasts. These unique sites are currently being thoroughly studied by scientists and archaeologists," he said.
Shamuradov reported that Turkmenistan is also working to develop cruise tourism on the Caspian Sea in collaboration with other Caspian littoral countries—Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Iran. He said this will provide a powerful impetus to the development of the cruise industry in the country.
The international exhibition and conference Turkmentravel 2026 will be held in Ashgabat on April 14-16.
