Russia is grateful to Turkmenistan for its support of the Russian language

Russia is grateful to Turkmenistan for the extensive opportunities it has created for Russian-language education. This was written by Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin in an article published in the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" to mark the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"We are grateful to the Turkmen side for creating extensive conditions for obtaining an education in the Russian language in the country," the diplomat noted.

According to him, the Joint Turkmen-Russian Secondary School named after A.S. Pushkin has been successfully operating in Ashgabat since 2002, currently enrolling over 1800 children. The ambassador also expressed hope that construction of an additional building for the school would soon begin.

Volynkin reported that an online Russian language course, developed specifically for Turkmenistan by specialists from the Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University, was launched in March 2026. The project was implemented through cooperation between the ministries of education and public education of the two countries. In the first phase, 70 video lessons were posted for first-grade students in Turkmen schools, with the potential to expand the program to other age groups.

The ambassador also noted that more than 54 thousand students from Turkmenistan have chosen Russian universities for higher education. In 2026, the government quota for education of Turkmen applicants funded by the federal budget remains at 500 places.
