The Artemis II crew set a record for the longest human flight from Earth

Astronauts on the Artemis II mission aboard the Orion spacecraft set a new world record for the farthest human traveled from Earth. According to NASA, the crew traveled 406 608 km from the planet, surpassing the previous record set by Apollo 13 by 6 437 km. The spacecraft also traveled 8 047 km beyond the Moon.

The crew included astronauts Reed Weisman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. During the six-hour flight, they observed the far side of the Moon and a total solar eclipse.

The mission launched on April 2 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and became the first manned expedition to the Moon since 1972. The total duration of the flight is approximately 10 days: the crew is expected to orbit the Moon and return to Earth.
