Respect for women is a key indicator of societal development – Chinar Rustemova

Respect for women is a key indicator of culture, morality, and the level of development of society as a whole. This was stated by Chinar Rustemova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO and Hero of Turkmenistan, at a conference on the role of women in modern society. The text of her speech is provided by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

"Women play a vital role in the family – as the foundation, the source of life, love, and support. As mothers, they nurture; as sisters and friends, they provide understanding and affection. They are the protectors of the family, able to support in difficult times, bringing harmony, wisdom, and inspiration to life. Respect for women is a key indicator of culture, morality, and the level of development of society as a whole," she said.

The diplomat also noted that since ancient times, Turkmen women have been highly respected as the guardians of the family hearth. According to her, the fundamental principles of the country's state gender policy were formed based on traditions passed down from generation to generation over the centuries.

Rustemova emphasized that the role of women in modern Turkmenistan is rapidly changing: they combine traditional family values with active participation in social, political, and economic life.

The conference was attended by members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, female heads of UN agencies in Turkmenistan, and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in the country. Participants discussed opportunities created in the country to support motherhood and childhood, as well as humanitarian policy and ways to improve the effectiveness of international cooperation with UN agencies in this area.
