Turkmenistan national football team head coach Rovshan Meredov believes both teams deserved a spot in the 2027 Asian Cup, but the tournament rules allow only one team to advance. He made this statement at a post-match press conference, as quoted by the Thai newspaper Thairath.

"I believe both teams deserved to qualify jointly, but the competition rules only allow one team to qualify. We're proud of this roster—every player on the team certainly has a bright future. From now on, we'll analyze what happened and continue working on further development," Meredov said.

The Group D match took place at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok and ended 2-1 in favor of the home team.

Thailand finished first in the group with 15 points and earned a spot at the Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. Turkmenistan finished second with 12 points.
