Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in connection with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the Kremlin press service.
In addition to the Turkmen leader, similar congratulations were received by the heads of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Israel. Congratulations were also sent to the peoples of Georgia and Moldova.
In his address, the Russian president noted the importance of preserving the memory of the exploits and sacrifices of previous generations who fought against the Nazi invaders and worked in the rear.
"Our sacred duty is to carefully preserve the legacy of the generation of victors. Therefore, it is very important to uncompromisingly suppress any attempts to distort our common history, whitewash or consign to oblivion the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their accomplices," Vladimir Putin emphasized in his message.
The head of the Russian state also expressed heartfelt congratulations and words of sincere gratitude to veterans of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers, wishing them good health, prosperity and long life.
