The working meeting on finalizing the Waste Management Concept was held by the United Nations Development Programme together with specialists from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
The participants discussed new regulatory legal acts, as well as issues related to the approval of the waste classifier, their division by hazard classes, reports "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
Hazard class is a legislative category reflecting the degree of negative impact of waste on the environment, human life and health. To establish the waste class, it is necessary:
- conduct an inventory of the places of formation, storage, placement of hazardous waste;
- take samples for chemical analysis;
- conduct a chemical analysis of the composition of the waste using an accredited laboratory and document each measurement with a laboratory research protocol.
During the discussion, proposals were made to develop an effective waste management system that would contribute to the “green” future of Turkmenistan.
The event was part of the implementation of the project “Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza”, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and UNDP.
