President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov discussed cooperation in various fields with European Commissioner for International Partnership Jozef Sikela, TDH reports.
During the meeting, the interlocutors noted that Turkmenistan’s partnership with the European Union (EU) is currently developing successfully, and political and diplomatic relations have become more active in recent years.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reported that Turkmenistan is successfully implementing a number of projects with the EU in the fields of science and education, ecology, energy, and the development of transport and transit corridors. He pointed to the country’s advantageous geographical location, in connection with which the expansion of transport and transit routes is of strategic importance. The head of state added that Turkmenistan is actively developing the North-South and East-West transport corridors.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashy, the capabilities of which allow to significantly reduce the route of large-sized cargo flows and travel time, as well as create favorable conditions for access to the Black Sea coast, the Middle East, as well as Europe, South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. He expressed confidence that “the port will serve as a reliable bridge in the development of interaction and trade and economic ties between the countries of Eurasia.”
