Political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Iran were held in Tehran on Wednesday. According to the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral partnership in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields. The consultations were attended by Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Foreign Minister of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
“Noting the importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust, the delegations discussed the possibilities of increasing Turkmen-Iranian cooperation to strengthen international peace, stability and sustainable development. In this regard, the importance of partnership within the UN, as well as other authoritative international and regional structures, in particular the ECO, OIC, was emphasized. In this regard, a review of the international and regional agenda was also held,” the report says.
The department also noted that trade and economic cooperation was a separate topic of discussion. Bilateral trade turnover indicators were reviewed. The priorities include the fuel and energy and transport sectors.
The parties outlined further steps to implement the tasks set, including in the area of water resources management. In this regard, the leading role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was noted.
In addition, the meeting participants discussed issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including holding joint events this year. The possibilities of strengthening ties in science, education, healthcare and sports were considered.
