6. A new study by Canadian researchers from the University of Toronto has uncovered a link between the spread of digital technology and the growing sense of boredom in modern people. National surveys show an alarming trend: the level of boredom has reached an all-time high, especially among young people, since 2009. Given that chronic boredom can provoke anxiety, depression, and aggressive behavior, the researchers studied this phenomenon in detail. It turns out that digital media creates a kind of “stimulation trap.” The constant flow of vivid impressions on social networks, which has evolved from text to images and short videos, creates inflated expectations of reality. As a result, traditional activities such as reading books or attending lectures seem insufficiently engaging.
