Famous British actor Idris Elba has revealed his plans to move to Africa to support local cinema. He announced his decision in an interview with the BBC during the African Film Summit in Ghana, writes daily.afisha.ru.

“The Luther” and “The Wire” star plans to settle on the continent over the next five to 10 years, where he plans to live in several cities, including Accra, Freetown and Zanzibar. Elba, whose parents are from Sierra Leone and Ghana, says his presence is essential to the success of an ambitious project to develop African filmmaking, which includes building a film studio in Tanzania.

The actor stressed the importance of creating films that would reflect genuine African culture and traditions. He noted that modern cinema often portrays the continent one-sidedly, focusing on themes of slavery, colonization and military conflicts. “When you come to Africa, you will understand that this is not true”, - Elba emphasized, expressing a desire to show the world the diversity of African languages and cultural characteristics of different regions of the continent.
