Norway has become the first country in the world where the number of electric cars has exceeded the number of gasoline cars. According to the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV) as of September 16, out of 2.8 million registered passenger cars, 754.3 thousand are electric cars, while there are 753.9 thousand gasoline cars. This is reported by pravilamag.ru.

OFV head Øyvind Solberg Thorsen called this event historic, noting Norway’s rapid transition to electric cars. Despite the fact that diesel cars are still in the lead with 999.7 thousand, experts predict that by 2026 electric cars will overtake this category as well.

The succes’ of electric cars in Norway is largely due to government policy: owners of electric cars are exempt from sales and emissions taxes, and also enjoy parking benefits. These measures have allowed Norway to become a world leader in the transition to environmentally friendly transport.
