Valentina Meredova, a multiple champion and record holder of Turkmenistan in the sprint, will represent the country at the 2024 XXXIII Olympic Games in Paris. She will compete in the 100 meter race.

39-year-old Meredova has shown consistently high results in national and international tournaments in recent years. Earlier this year, at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran, she set a new national record in the 60-meter race, running the distance in 7.44 seconds, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

Valentina’s sports career began almost 27 years ago, when her talent was noticed by a school physical education teacher. Now she is preparing for the Olympics under the leadership of the senior coach of the national team, Baymurad Ashirmuradov.

This will be Meredova’s second Olympics – she already represented Turkmenistan at the 2008 Games in Beijing. The athlete’s recent achievements include a silver medal in the 4x100 meter relay and a bronze medal in the 100 meter at the Central Asian Open Athletics Championships in May this year in Tashkent.

Chairman of the Athletics Federation of Turkmenistan Hajymyrat Rahmanov noted that Meredova earned the right to represent the country at the Olympics thanks to her strong-willed character and ability to give 100 percent.

Preliminary competitions in the 100-meter distance, in which Valentina Meredova will perform, will take place on August 2.
