Young Turkmen chess players completed their participation in the FIDE World Cup among boys and girls under 8, 10 and 12 years old, held in Batumi, Georgia. The 48 best players in the world, invited by FIDE, competed in each of the six categories.

Turkmenistan was represented in all categories. First, the participants played seven games using the Swiss system in two groups, and then met in pairs using the knockout system to determine the best.

Aya Bayramova from Lebap became the best among Turkmen chess players, finishing 8th in her group in the under 10 category and 15th overall after defeating her opponent from Singapore.

Other representatives of Turkmenistan are Aylar Hemrayeva, Nebahat Muradova, Charyhekim Charyev, Omarbek Ismailov and Rauf Yusupov.

In total, 288 chess players from 37 countries took part in the competition, among which medalists were representatives of the USA, China, India, Kazakhstan and Russia.

Over the past month, about 30 Turkmen chess players have competed at three major tournaments, including the U20 World Championship and the Asian Championship.

“The Chess Federation of Turkmenistan believes that already next year some of these players will begin to create worthy competition in the fight for places in the main men’s and women’s teams, and in a few years they will even join the “first team”. Encouraging healthy competition increases the competitive spirit and increases the motivation of chess players”, - says the Federation’s press release.
