The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Vepa Hajiyev, met with the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, MIC reports.
The agenda included current issues of bilateral cooperation and its prospects in the healthcare sector.
During the negotiations, special attention was paid to such priority areas as organizing a preventive system, health education of the population, promoting a healthy lifestyle and sports, prevention and early detection of non-communicable diseases, and conducting information campaigns.
The participation of the Turkmen delegation in the upcoming 77th session of the World Health Assembly, which will be held in Geneva from May 27 to June 1 of this year, was also discussed.
In addition, the parties considered issues related to the preparation and holding of a high-level conference planned for December 2024 on the fight against non-communicable diseases. This forum is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Ashgabat Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases. The possibility of participation in the conference by the WHO Director General was discussed.
