Apotek Hjärtat, Sweden's largest pharmacy chain, has banned the sale of anti-aging skin care products to children under 15 years of age. This is reported by daily.afisha.ru.
The reason for the ban was the craze of young social network users for “rejuvenating” procedures.
Customers under 15 years of age, unless they have parental consent or have a skin condition that requires treatment, will not be able to purchase advanced skin care products.
The ban applies to AHA acids, BHA acids, Vitamins A and C, and enzyme peeling.
“Using advanced skin care products that, for example, aim to reduce wrinkles and achieve a more even skin tone is not what a child needs,” explained Apotek Hjärtat chief pharmacist Annika Svedberg.
Social media is fueling a boom in cosmetics among children. According to one beauty salon chain, 20-40% of their clients are now under 13 years of age.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that young users in Europe, following examples from social networks, are seeking to “rejuvenate” with the help of expensive cosmetic products.
According to experts, such a hobby can harm young skin and negatively affect the psyche of children obsessed with the idea of eternal youth.
Annika Svedberg believes that age restrictions on the sale of anti-aging cosmetics will open an important conversation with children and parents about healthy skin care, based on real needs, rather than imposed beauty ideals.
