Business digest: the main economic news of Turkmenistan from December 20 to 26

In the regular weekly business digest of Turkmenportal, read about the strengthening of cooperation between Turkmenistan and foreign partners in the energy and industrial sectors, the growth of cargo transportation volumes, plans to create new jobs and develop infrastructure in the regions, as well as other current events in the Turkmen economy.

Fuel and Energy Complex

The State Concern “Turkmenhimiya” and the Japanese corporation Kawasaki Heavy Industries signed two contracts as part of the visit of the Turkmen economic delegation to Japan. The contracts are aimed at implementing projects to service the world's first plant for the production of gasoline from natural gas in the Ahal region of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan and the European Union discussed the supply of Turkmen gas, Ashgabat’s initiatives to reduce methane emissions and the development of renewable energy sources. The topics of the negotiations also included Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO for integration into the world economy.

The “Turkmenneft” State Concern produced over 3 million tons of oil in 11 months of 2023, exceeding the plan by 111%. The greatest successes in production were achieved by the work teams of the departments “Gumdagnebit”, “Keymir” and “Galkynyshnebit”.

State Concern “Turkmenneft” is working on the reconstruction of deep oil refining units at the Seydi oil refinery. Their modernization is designed to ensure uninterrupted operation of the refinery through the introduction of modern technologies.

Transport and logistic

Turkmenistan came up with initiatives to transport goods from Europe on a turnkey basis as part of an online meeting with representatives of the Latvian transport industry.

Over the 11 months of 2023, the maritime merchant fleet of Turkmenistan increased the number of containers transported by sea almost 4 times - by 277,3% compared to the same period last year - to 3846 TEU. The overall growth in cargo transportation volumes was 21,6%.

Construction

Through the construction of new industrial facilities in the city of Arkadag in Turkmenistan, it is planned to create thousands of new jobs. The enterprises will organize the production of environmentally friendly and export-oriented products.

The “Turkmenawtoulaglary” Agency announced that it will build new autodromes in the Geokdepe etrap of the Ahal velayat, as well as in the cities of Balkanabat, Dashoguz, Turkmenabat and Mary. In this regard, the purchase of vehicles, electronic training equipment and other materials necessary to equip the racetracks will be carried out.

Industry

The State Concern “Turkmenhimiya” will establish a new production of high-quality and environmentally friendly salt at the “Guwlyduz” plant in the Balkan velayat of Turkmenistan.

Since the beginning of 2023, the Dashoguz State Power Plant has generated more than 1,2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.

The international cooperation

Issues of realizing the potential of Turkmen-Russian economic cooperation will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission in Ashgabat in early 2024.
