Shahzadbek Matyakubov from Turkmenistan won a gold medal at the Grand Prix II weightlifting tournament in Doha. The competition is a qualifier for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the Turkmenportal correspondent reports.

The Turkmen weightlifter achieved this success in the weight category up to 96 kg. In total, Matyakubov gained 371 kg – 167 kg in the snatch and 204 kg in the clean and jerk. The result brought the athlete two gold medals and one silver.

Based on the results of two disciplines, silver went to David Hovhannisyan from Armenia (370 kg - 170 kg and 200 kg), and bronze to Bong Yang Te from the DPRK (362 kg - 161 kg and 201 kg).

In the women's part of the tournament in the up to 76 kg weight category, Polina Guryeva, vice-champion of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in the up to 59 kg category, was one step away from a medal.

It is worth noting that this is already the third success of Turkmen weightlifters at the tournament in Qatar. Previously, Bunyad Rashidov (up to 67 kg) and Gaigysyz Toraev (up to 81 kg) became bronze medalists at the II Grand Prix in Doha.

The International Weightlifting Federation Grand Prix in Doha will end on December 14.
