The excise tax rate on cigarettes and other tobacco products in Turkmenistan has been increased from 116% of the customs value to 145%. The corresponding amendments to the Tax Code of Turkmenistan are provided by the website “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
The excise tax rate on other industrially produced tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes has been changed from 24.4 to 30.5.
Let us remind that in February last year, the National Program for 2022-2025 was adopted to transform Turkmenistan into a tobacco-free country.
In November of the same year, Turkmenistan banned the sale of cigarettes to people under 21 years of age.
In June of this year, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the State Security Council demanded to strengthen the fight against the illegal import of tobacco products, components and mixtures for hookahs, electronic cigarettes, illegal trade in them and their use into the country.
It is worth noting that the corresponding amendments to the Tax Code of Turkmenistan will come into force on January 1, 2024.
