Turkmenistan and Türkiye will open joint diploma programs at universities, which will permit both countries to admit students to bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs, the Turkish Higher Education Council reports.

Joint degree programs are a method of education in which students can study at universities in different countries and receive diplomas that will be valid in both countries.

This format of training became possible thanks to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Türkiye for cooperation in the field of higher education. The document was signed within the framework of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Türkiye on October 25-26.

The Memorandum of Understanding also provides for support for educational mobility and internships, as well as the participation of Turkmen and Turkish students, teachers and researchers in short-term scientific programs at universities in both countries.

In addition, it is planned to exchange educational materials, conduct joint master classes, conferences, seminars and visits to educational institutions of Turkmenistan and Türkiye.

A Turkmen-Turkish Joint Standing Committee on Higher Education will be created to coordinate cooperation.

According to the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye, among Turkmen students who study in the republic in associate degree programs, the faculties of first aid and emergency care, banking and insurance, accounting and exhibition activities are in greatest demand.

Bachelor's degree students from Turkmenistan most often enter the history and pedagogical faculties. In master's programs, students prefer to study history, and in doctoral studies, international relations and history.
